Shopify Plus's capacity to handle over 10,000 transactions per minute resolved a major issue in course registration, enabling individual and corporate clients to sign up for multiple courses in a single transaction.
To ensure platform security and integration with HEC Montréal ED’s internal systems, Molsoft relied on Shopify Plus’s PCI DSS Level 1 and SOC2 Type 2-compliant hosting, securing all data—a key requirement for HEC Montréal ED as a public institution handling sensitive information. Additionally, Shopify Plus is highly versatile and designed to integrate with various external systems, offering an ideal base for HEC Montréal ED’s needs. A key feature of the solution was a customized enrollment process. Beyond a typical e-commerce transaction, the platform allows purchasers to register themselves or designate participants for specific courses, with participant information stored as metadata attached to each course order. This metadata integrates seamlessly with HEC Montréal ED’s existing systems, creating a smooth data flow for resource planning. To go further, Molsoft developed a custom API to facilitate smooth integration between Shopify Plus and HEC Montréal ED’s Oracle Peoplesoft system used for resource management. Salesforce, the customer relationship management (CRM) system, was integrated via a modified connector that transmits participant information in addition to purchaser details. This created a seamless data flow between the e-commerce platform and HEC Montréal ED’s ERP and CRM systems, significantly reducing manual work and enhancing operational efficiency. With this integration, HEC Montréal ED's internal teams can now access real-time data, allowing for better decision-making and streamlined processes. Another critical element was the custom discount system. Molsoft implemented a feature that automatically applies discounts based on information entered by the purchaser, such as employer and employee number. This allowed HEC Montréal ED to offer tailored rates to employees of partner organizations without needing manual entry or promotional codes. This was particularly important given the scale of HEC Montréal ED’s corporate partnerships, where managing thousands of individual promo codes would have been impractical. The UX/UI redesign was equally crucial to the project. Molsoft developed a custom theme that integrated HEC Montréal ED’s branding while ensuring an intuitive user experience.
